Description
Voucher for wood specimen, MADw 47487. Tree 14 m. tall, 40 cm. diameter; bark dark, tight, flakey; crown dense, dark green; needles mostly oriented upwards, pointing at ca. 45° toward the tip. Winter buds not resinous, the scales with free, recurved tips. Cones common, variable in size, 6-10.5 cm. long, much shorter than those in most cultivars of Picea abies. [Accession data lost; seems to exactly match a tree in the Montgomery Conifer Collection on the grounds of the Garden and labelled as "Picea abies var. conica.". Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
