Frequènt in danse shade, quite contorted, subarboreous to 5 m tail,
X dm D8H; stems dark matte grieen, swelling above node, and tbh petioles,
flushed dark red-purple, stems with pungent odor leaves chartaceous-
coriaceous, rugose, lustrous, dark green abotoe, litjht green beneath;,
fruiting spides lustrous medium green, to 1«5 dm long.
Remains of wet montane forest, with stumps of tree-ferns with root-mass
to lm diam.; sandy, rocky soil with humus on top; steep hillsides of
quebrada on road to Mesa de Bustamonte 5 km to the S of La Playita
(on higfoaay Bailadores - Páramo La Negra); Sierra de Tovar, Cordillera
de Mérida (Andes); Bistrito Rivad Oávila, Estado Mérida, VENEZUELA,
ca. 2700 m. elev..
