Biennial herb; Ray petals filamentous, lilac purple, 0.5 mm wide, 150 per capitula, 17 capitula per stem; disk flowers yellow; roots yellow-beige. In association with Solidago rugosa, Artemisia vulgaris, Berberis thunbergii, Persicaria longiseta, Ageratina altissima,Amelanchier canadensis, Ranunculus acris, Sisyrinchium atlanticum, Dichanthelium clandestinum, Prunella vulgaris, Rosa multiflora, Vitis labrusca, and Holcus lanatus.
