Near Echo Camp on the Lincoln Highway, elevation 7000
feet, in open places In the forest in damp granite soil. The prin-
cipal tre? is Àhies magnifica. Pinus Murrayana abounds in low
places about meadows, with an occasional P. Jeffreyi on exposed
jfidgés. Cómmon undershrùbs are Ceanothus aud Castanopsis.
