Tree-like shrub @ 4 m tall, dbh @ 3”; plant glabrous throughout; prophyll
red, as are the youngest leaves; leaves elliptic with 3 main veins, dark
green above, pale below, slightly coriaceous; spikes erect with widely
spaced flowers; bracts tiny, cucullate; fruits red-speckled, ellipsoid with
disk-like style
