Herb, about 1.4 m. tall (to 3 dm.), terrestrial; (and epiphytic); stems glaucous pink; leaves uniform green above, whitish beneath; anthers white; staminate flowers open upper part of spike, pistils below (i.e. later). In wet soil (always) along trail in shade or in light. On the island in the Amazon Siver directly in front of Iquitos. Coll. Donald R.
