Ca. 50 h lake; peatland complex on S end of
the lake, S 1/2 sec. 14, T59N, RAW; ele 710
m. Large, open peatland complex consists of
open, floating Sphagnum mats immediately
surrounding the lake dominated by Carex
lasiocarpa and C. rostrata; scattered marshy
areas dominated by Typha latifolia, often on
Sphagnum-covered substrate; and shrub carrs
adjacent to upland forests characterized by
Alnus incana, Betula glandulosa, and Spiraea
douglasii. Littoral regions of the lake
characterized by rhizomatous stands of
several aquatic macrophytes including
Brasenia schreberi, Nymphaea odorata, and
Nuphar polysepalum in water ldm-2 m deep.
Surrounding forest mixed w/ Populus
tremuloides, Picea engelmanii, Pinus
monticola, and Thuja plicata being prominent.
Water chem.: pH 7.2, hardness (mg/L as
CaC03) 11.3, alkalinity (mg/L) 16,
conductivity 70 mmhos. Abundance: occasional
in duff on dry areas in cedar/alder swamp on
E side of lake.
