This plant common in shade of high restinga.
Stem prostrate under leaf litter, to 2cm
thick, creeping for up to 60cm or more,
completely covered by tightly-clasping
persistent brown-membranous cataphylls
which when young are white-green to pink
and up to 5cm long, stem producing numerous
5mm thick white-woolly velameniferous roots.
Intemodes about 1 cm long. Petioles to
33cm long, 5mm thick, from black-green to
pale green to dark pink-green,

Lamina to 30cm long, 20cm broad, usually
broadly lanceolate, occasionally (largest
leaves) very broadly ovate. Base truncate
to. acute, usually rounded and always
acuminately inserted on petiole, dark shiny
green above, much paler and + shiny below.
Costa rounded-prominent above, similar but
more prominent below,	*

Primary lateral nerves and collecting nerves
strongly impressed above, etched into lamina
surface but lamina also broadly bullate,
below prominent, lamina similarly reverse-
bullate. Peduncle pale green stj^>ngly
coloured red-pink-brown, to 30cm long, 4«5mm
thick. Spathe light olive-green, pink-flushed
at margins and at insertion on stipe, oblong-
lanceolate, to 11cm long, 2.2cm broad.
Stipe to 2.5cm long, 7mm thick, dirty olive-
green flushed dark pink. Spadix to 15cm
long, 9inm broad, obtuse at apex, slightly
tapering, red-brown when young becoming
dark olive-green or very dark dirty maroon
when older. Tepals shiny.
