shrub, S to 3 m» high, in open lands of the hemp region
end about native hats; stems terete, 1 to £ inches thick,
grayish brown, smooth except the prominent excrescences
of the old p#tiole bases; youndk twigs green; leaves sub-
membranous, 1 to 7-digitate, glaucous beneath; recurred
segments subluoid above and coiadupliea&e; inflorescence
from the forks of the branchleta, divaricate, green;
flowers odorless, pendulous, the perianth Jcellowish green;
ovary flat, cognate, lemon yellow; filaments whitish,
strongly incurved; anthers lighter yellow than the ovary;
nuts pendulous, glaucous green, subglobose, 6-wiaged;
cells 3; the solitary seed brown or mottled, smooth, the
apical portion provided with a fleshy white caruncle; the
