CHIHUAHUA: In stony volcanic soil on gentle
slopes of dry, grassy valley with scattered
mesquite, ca 135 km north of Chihuahua and
22 km south of El Sueco. Elev. ca 1200 m.
Stems somewhat succulent, arising singly or
two together from a deep-seated cormose
storage root ca 1 dm thick. Flowers uni-
sexual, most of them staminate. Petals 5,
light pink. Stamens 8, the 5 outer ones
shorter than the 3 inner. Ovary tricarpel-
late, with separate, bilobed styles.
