Mora forest on loamy soil near creek, with Mora excelsa,
Carapa guianensis.
Tree, 30 m tall, diam. above buttresses 0.6 m.
Buttresses 0.8-2.5 x 0.9-2.5(-4) x 0.1-0.2 m. Bark light
grey-brown, cracked, scaly, on buttress rideges fissured
and orange-brown. Cracks irregular, mainly vertical,
1-15 x 0.1-0.3 cm. Scales irregular 1-5(-15) x 1-3 cm,
0.2-0.3 cm thick. Dead bark 2-3 mm thick, dark-brown
with white-brown spots, brittle. Living bark 4-5 mm
thick, dark red outside, more pink-red towards sapwood,
with orange-brown fibres which are best visible near
sapwood. Sapwood light brown, heartwood red-brown (?).
Leaves shiny above. Primary vein prominent on both
sides. Secondary veins sunken above. Fruits 2 mm diam.,
light green.
Separate: fruits in alcohol; slides base, bark, slash.
