Low, semi-shrubby, thorny plant. Leaves alternate, obovate, entire, obtuse, mostly
on the young growth. Flowers small, in terminal clusters, surrounded by two, broadly
ovate, conspicuous red bracts.
Introduced ornamental often cultivated as a hedge (9970). English
name, crown of thorns.
