Eryngium planum L., as it will key in Bailey’s Manual
and as it will key in Flora Europaea.
Cultivated in the Paine Arboretum, Congress Street at
Elmwood Avenue, Oshkosh. Some of the plants well
over a meter tall, from a massive taproot, falling over of
their own weight. Heads blue; bracts blue above; fresh
stems iridescent distally, giving off blue flashes as they
are turned in the light.
