Habitat: Thornbush dominated by Commiphora spp. , succulents
and this Euphorbia. The ground slightly sloping at the
foot of the hill. Soil light brown, sandy.
Description: Tree, up to 5 m high. Trunk up to 30 cm in
diam, single or numerous (5) . One tree seen with trunk
dividing into 5, \ m above the ground. Bark grey with
lichens , cracking along rows of spines in a manner such
that when a crack is followed up the trunk the spines
sit sometimes on one side of the crack, sometimes on
the other. Branches falling off on the lower parts of
the trunk. Branches reaching 2% m length, leafless,
succulent, with 4 wings, green, segmented. Segmentation
very variable. Segments on one plant observed vary from
8 cm to 15 cm wide, and from 7 cm to 4 0 cm long. On the
margin of the wings rows of spines on continous spines-
hields. Spines from h cm to lk cm long.
The specimen collected from a young plant, 2\ m tall,
fruiting. The very long segments observed on this indivi-

the length of the segments usually exceeds the' width
only little.
Photo taken of the collected segments, an old plant
with 5 stems form h m above the ground and of the plant
from which segments were collected (old plant in back-
ground) .
