Rocky slopes dominated by Rhododendron catawbiense-Prunus-Vaccinium thickets and mixed northern hardwoods (Acer saccharum, Amelanchier, Betula alleghaniensis, Crataegus, Fagus). corticolous on Betula allegheniensis.
