Herbarium of the University of California, Berkeley COLLECTOR’S NOTE. Mesa del Potrero de San Javier is an extensive upland varying from 800 m. at the western edge to ca. 850 m. at the crest. It is densely paved with volcanic rock and bears only scattered shrubby vegetation, mostly along rocky outcrops: Acacia Goldmanii, Erythrinaflabelliformis, Prosopis juliflora, Cercidium praecox, Bursera laxiflora, Jatropha cine- rea, and Fouquieria Diguetii. Following heavy summer rains, however, the rock pavement was obscured by a knee-high growth of annuals. Amoreuxia palmatifida is abundant in the heavy adobe soil. The steep south- and west-facing slopes have a moderate cover of Bursera odorata, B. microphylla, Jatropha cuneata, Fouquieria Diguetii, Pachycereus, Lemaireocereus Thurberi, and Ruellia peninsularis.
