SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION UNITED STATES NATIONAL MUSEUM WASHINGTON, 0, C, My i, mi, Dr. N. L. Britton, New York Botanical Garden, Bronx Pari, Net M City, My'dear Doctor Britton I have looked up that curious Jeimacan plant) and find that I made two specimens of it, one in Horn and the other in fruit, both from Tehuacan, collected August 31, nos, 11234 and 11239, The same plant was collected at this locality by Purpus in 1907, his no, 2399, This was identified by Brandegee as Euphorbia anti syphilitica, a very common plant as you know in northern Liexico and western Texas, I have had the lexifen plant in cultivation here, but I muld think that the Tehuacan plant represents a different species, He have considerable material from northern Mexico. This latter plant has many economic uses) one of which is its use for phonograph records, and therefore has been made use of by Mr. Edison. A very interesting account of these uses is given by Mr. Standley in Part 3 of Volume 23, of the Contributions from the national Herbarium, "tould it be possible for you to send me a small shoot from one of your large pots that I could grow here in our greenhouse? I wish you would look into the specific characters of this plant. It is referred, as you know, to the ¡enus Trichosterigma. 04020192
