Volcan Pichincha, eastern flanks of. Slightly behind the teleferico terminus. On this day
we took the teleferico up, and then walked down a gravel/cobblestone road to the bottom,
near the monument. Rare, hanging off big clumps of moss, on steep earthen walls (ash)
of narrow deep gully with clear flowing water in bottom. With much moss, liverworts,
Equisetum, cf. Rhychospora, Rosaceae, Polystichum, cf. Anthoxylum, etc.
SO.18613 W78.53836 +/-5m. NAD27 (Canada). 3954 m elevation.
Duplicates: 3, to: QCA, DUKE, NY. Collected three things that looked slightly different here: the common
round-segmented, dense one (CJR 3487); a rarer big, sparse one with irregular segments (3488); and one that
looked intermediate (3489). Trip funded in part by a Lewis and Clark Explorers Grant from the American
Philosophical Society, to C.Rothfels.
