det.M. Nee, 2017
Wisconsin, Richland Co., XA mile S of Hub City,
floodplain of Pine River, along Hwy. I, between Hwy. 80
and the Pine River bridge.
43°27’S1”N, 90°2r25”W. alt. 238 m.
T 11 N; R 1 E; NW%NE!/4 sect. 3.
Marshy area with large clones of Salix interior, and a few
trees of Salix x fragilis.
A population of unusual appearance for this species, a patch 40
meters in diameter of apparently a single pistillate clone with
clumps 0.5-1.5 m. apart, each consisting of (1-) 2-8 stems, but
all uniformly 4.5-5 meters tall. Apparently the original clone
had been cut mechanically during habitat reconstruction and
these are stems of uniform age and several sprouting from each
original single stem. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw,
MADw, MEXUw, RSAw; this stem 4.3 cm. in diameter, ca. 8
years old. Pistillate; see Nee 63488 for a staminate clone.
