With a few Acer saccharinum, A. negundo, Fraxinus
pennsylvanica var. subintegerrima, mostly open floodplain.
Shrubs to 5 m high, slender, erect, branched stems from
horizontal or leaning trunks to 20 cm. in diameter, in clump
of several of these larger trunks, whether broken down from
age or flooding is uncertain. Voucher for wood specimens at
Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw, the wood specimen
from an upright stem 9.5 cm in diameter and ca. 14 years
old. Catkins horizontal to erect; several clumps here like
this, all pistillate. See Nee 63374 for a nearby staminate
plant.
