  • Habitat

    Former dry prairie now overgrown by woody vegetation, on very crest of ridge with very thin soil and dolomite blocks (Ordovician-age Prairie du Chien formation). Juniperus virginiana the most common tree, Zanthoxylum americanum an especially common shrub, with Prunus serotina, Rubus occidentalis, Hypericum perforatum, and Apocynum sibiricum; Populus tremuloides and Ulmus sp. saplings are coming in, and the habitat is growing up to brush.
