Tree 40 f«*t hig£h with a 2 feet thick stem, on a fertile moist wooded edge of the south side of the Bartering river at 4000 feet; wood mOrdtfSrately soft, light, odorless and tasteless, "maple•like” gain, dingy white: bark minutely checked, yellowish mottled with grayt limbs mostly *t the top, widely spreading *nd forming a flat crown; twigs crooked, 1 inch thick, with ascending tips; leaves horizontally spreading, deep green and very lucid on the upper only shallowly conduplieate surface, tips twisted or abruptly recurved9 lighter green and duller beneath, coriaceous; inflorescence ascending, axillary, the spikes 1 to £ feet long, greenish throughout except the odorless yellowish green flowers; "Magabad-bad;* To4«ya.
