*VOT%G. VARAGUAV BOTANICAL v^arde^ C. cast*.¿ei*n,A h*4*r !V\ NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN Determined by 03950117 Caperonia palustris, St. Hil., Pi. Remarq., 245. Asuncion (382); Pilcomayo River (1047); Caballero (438). January-May. This genus differs principally from the preceding Euphorbiaceous genera in having its fruit in united triplets, the 3 cocci generally hispid or echinate. The species here noted is a coarse plant 6-9 dm. high, the stems beset with spreading, translucent setae, each tipped with a minute oblong head. Nos. 382 and 1047 have broad oval crenate-serrate leaves, while the leaves of 438 are long, narrow lanceolate and sharply serrate. The last differs so greatly from the other forms that it might almost be considered a distinct species. Some specimens of 1047 were distributed as Q^ castaneaefolia, St. Hil., which very closely resembles this species. > PLANTS OK SOUTH AMERICA Collected by Thos. Morong, 1888-1890.
