United States of America. Missouri. Wayne Co. Wappapello. Camp Latonka.

  • Habitat

bottomland - forest. Moisture conditions: just rained. grass.

  • Description

spore length: 7 - 8 microns; spore width: 7 - 8 microns; spore shape: subglobose to globose; spore texture: ornamented with spines; spore color: hyaline; spore print color: white. Taste; Has no taste. Odor; None. Extremely common fall mushroom. Pale pinkish-brown color, with beautiful pinkish to purple colored gills, and pale pinkish stalk. Gills attached. Stalk is fibrous, tough and dry. Very abundant in clusters, or scattered. An edible mushroom, although it can be confused with a few dangerously poisonous species, such as cortinarius. In my opinion, not very choice. A.k.a., Purple-gilled laccaria. Close examination by Dr. Methven (see annotation above) combined with the 2015 DNA analysis confirmed that this specimen is Laccaria ochropurpurea.
