Description
spore length: 7.5 - 8 microns; spore width: 4.5 - 5.5 microns; spore shape: elliptical; spore texture: smooth; spore color: brown or honey; spore print color: salmon pink. This specimen did not come out of a wound in a tree as most of the field guide indicate but rather just fruiting on a downed log that was old. Close examination by Dr. Methven (see annotation above) combined with the 2015 DNA analysis confirmed that this specimen is Volvariella bombycina.
