Description
spore length: 6 - 7 microns; spore width: 3.5 - 4 microns; spore shape: elliptical - some with an apiculus at one end; spore texture: smooth; spore color: brown; spore print color: dark brown to almost black. The field guide listed was just the beginning of the process. Dr. Andrew Methven and Jay Justice were the ones responsible for the classification that was based on the photos reference on the Voucher Information. Close examination by Dr. Methven (see annotation above) combined with the 2015 DNA analysis confirmed that this specimen is Agaricus placomyces.
