Tree» 7 m* high, in woods of steep ravines at £000
feet; wood odorless, moderately hard, dirty yellowish vfilte
throughout; bark rather finely and deeply checked longitu-
dinally, dirty brown; branches widely hut rery crookedly
spreading, auite rigid; leaves aseendingly spreading,
leathery, nearly fiat, dull green above, much lighter beneath,
very smooth on both sides; inflorescence yellowish,
slightly fragrant, the perianth yellowish white on the inner
side; infrutescence subereot; the mature berries globose,
very luoid and dark purple, not juioe but rather soft,
3-celled; each cell with a solitary light asure seed whioh
is more or less juicy; "Palpal&n"; Dumsguete, April, 1908«
