Bank above Sungai Ella and environs. 0°38'S 112°17'E Alt: 320 m Habitat: Mixed dipterocarp forest, associates include Shorea, Myrtaceae, Meliaceae, Euphorbiaceae. Red clay soil. Field Char: Tree c. 12 m, 17 cm dbh. Outer bark reddish-brown, thin, peeling easily. Inner bark reddish. Stipules 1.5 cm. Leaves 33 cm long, fleshy, undersurface covered by small scales. Fruit cauliflorous, reddish- purple with pale yellow stellate hairs. Notes: Local name: Kayu ombak. Fruit edible, sweet.
