South-facing base of steep cliff, eroded gypsum and red
clay, grassland with Prosopis, Juniperus virginiana,
Opuntia, grasses, Rhus glabra, Mentzelia, Phacelia,
Sphaeralcea, Pediomelum, Englemannia,
Lithospermum incisum.
Prostrate, caespitose perennial, 25 cm across, petals
deep magenta fading blue-violet, banner with white
central spot; locally common.
