Locally common shrub to 2 m high, the inside of the sepals yellow; north-facing hillside in desertscrub/thomscrub with Abutilon incanum, Acacia willardiana, Ambrosia ambrosioides, Bebbia juncea, Bursera microphylla, Caesalpinia pumila, Cordia sonorae, Croton alamosanus, Croton sonorae, Encelia farinosa, Jatropha cuneata, Marsdenia edulis, Passiflora, Perityle palmeri, Porophyllum pausodynum.
