Hunt det. M. Nee, 1995 Depto. Santa Cruz, Prov. Caballero, 9 km. SE of Comarapa on highway to San Isidro. 17°58,30,fN, 64°29’W. alt. 1700 m. Grazed arid scrub along Quebrada Pujio, a dry wash. Achatocarpus, Prosopis alba, P. kuntzei, Capparis atamisquea, C. speciosa, Acacia aroma. Common, 2.5-4 m. tall, branched, many of the old branches arching downward, then sometimes continuing to sprout upward. Flowers open (8:30 A.M., overcast drizzly), lightly and pleasantly fragrant, this is the commonest cactus in the area and all the plants are in full flower now; most plants seem to close the flowers by noon, but others seem to be open later); outer tepals recurved, yellow-green with purplish tinge, grading into the wider, pure white erect inner petals; filaments very pale yellow-green, one set appressed against the upper petals, the great majority clustered below and with the tips upcurved; anthers creamy white; stigmas light yellow-green.
