botanical PLANTS OF MEXICO Hectia schottii Baker TAMAULIPAS: Los Ebanos, about 10 km S of Jaumave, at Km. 103 on Hwy 101, hwy elevation 3500', dry desert. No Hechtia grew right beside the road here, but there was a very thick population up the steep limestone hillside some 700 feet. The plants grew down nearly to the level of the town. More solitary than H. scariosa, though still bunching up to some- extent. Forming rather large rosettes that were quite flat. Flowering stalks reaching about 8 ft., but some as short as 4 ft. One with some flow- ers, the female heads getting ripe and beginning to scatter a few seeds. D. S. Lewis 21 June 1974 University of Texas at Austin 03855994 03855994
