Sandstone plateau of Contrafuerte Tres Patines, west of main Cóndor ridge. Above "Jardín Botánico" of EcuaCorriente copper company; south of km 15 of Cóndor Mirador military road. Dwarf, dense forest; canopy 4-10 m tall. Thick root mat and humus layer over sandstone substrate. 03°37'48"S 78°26150"W 1685 m Terrestrial herb, growing abundantly in open areas of dwarf scrub forest on bare sandstone, amid dense mat of Sphagnum moss. Stems to 20 cm tall. Inflorescence rachis red-orange. Bracts bright yellow with red striations. Calyx and corolla uniformly bright yellow. 9 Dec 2005 David Neill & W.
