    At edge of low woods with much Liquidambar, Betula nigra, Acer carolinianum, Nyssa biflora, Salix nigra, Quercus (michaixii, pagoda, ?shumardii); also Platanus, Ulmus americana, (Liriodendron, Carya illinoinensis); Alnus, Cornus (stricta, ?obliqua), Ostrya, Carpinus, Ilex verticillata, Viburnum nudum, Vitis ?cinerea.

    Sapling/sprouts 1-2 m tall. But subpapillate?!? large leaflets; pubescent; shallow notch. Rare.
