    Occasional at edge of low woods with Quercus nigra, Q. laurifolia, Nyssa aquatica, N. sylvatica, Liquidambar, Acer carolinianum (Salix caroliniana, Liriodendron, Diospyros, Pinus taeda); Persea palustris, Itea, Alnus, Morella, Ilex amelanchier, Cephalanthus, Arundinaria tecta, Sabal minor, Smilax bonanox.

    Sprouts to 5 cm dbh, 4 m tall. Pubescent; but ?subpapillate; NA indicates octoploid. Fruiting.
