Scattered at edge of low woods with frequent Pinus taeda (to 30 m tall), Liriodendron, Acer carolinianum; also Liquidambar, Quercus phellos, Q. alba, Q. velutina, Ulmus alata (Fraxinus pennsylvanica, U. americana, Fagus, Platanus).

Tree 1 dm dbh, 8 m tall. Pubescent; but subpapillate; NA indicates octoploid. No fruits.
