Common in low woods with frequent Quercus phellos, Carya carolinae-septentrionalis, Ulmus alata, Liquidambar; also C. glabra, Q. velutina, Q. alba, Q. rubra, Q. lyrata, Acer carolinianum, Diospyros, Celtis ?smallii, Juniperus, Pinus taeda, Populus deltoides, Ulmus americana; Cercis, Ligustrum sinense, L. japonicum, Lonicera japonica, Vaccinium arboreum, Hypericum hypericoides.
