The New York Botanical Garden Plants of BOLIVIA Cactaceae Cereus comarapanus Card, det. M. Nee, 1999 Depto. Santa Cruz, Prov. Florida, 6.5 km. ENE of Mataral on highway to Mairana, 6 km SW of turnoff to Pampa Grande. Arid hillsides with cacti and thorn scrub. 18°05’S, 64°10’W. alt. 1400 m. Single-stemmed, 6 m. tall, 5 cm. in diameter; trunk with spines up to 12 cm. long; ultimate branches ca. 20, all erect, 5-6-ribbed. Flowers appear to be partly closed,, the outer tepals dark pink, the inner white, with rather fart-like or mousy odor now (2:00 P.M., sunny) but in morning after overnight in press some opening flowers with light pleasant spicy fragrance.
