The New York Botanical Garden Plants of BOLIVIA Bromeliaceae Bromelia serra Griseb. det. M. Nee, 2000 Depto. Santa Cruz, Prov. Cordillera, 7 km NW of turnoff from highway at Río Seco on dirt road toward La Florida. Chaco forest on slightly rolling area, sandy soil. With Astronium, Anadenanthera macrocarpa, Phyllostylon rhamnoides, Bromelia serra, Capparis speciosa, C. retusa, Ximenia americana. 18°38.46’S, 63017.61’W, alt. 525 m. Common, forming patches. Few flowering and fewer seen with green fruit. Upper leaves and inflorescence bracts bright red; petals white with purple mark. Coll.: M. Nee 51404 15 Nov. 2000 03854174
