18°06’06”S, 64°33’20”W. alt. 1430 m.
Gentle slope of broad alluvial fan, between hills to the east and
well above the river valley. Grazed desert scrub with
Neoraimondia herzogiana, Harrisia tetracantha, Cleistocactus
candelilla, Cereus comarapanus, Browningia caineana,
Cercidium praecox.
Common here, to 8 m. tall; trunk to 20 cm. in diameter at the
base, with several (up to 20) erect stems, the first 1 or 2
segments looking bristly with the slender yellowish-tan spines.
Apparently no open flowers although numerous buds and some
old flowers; with prominent white lines of hairs on each
margin of the ovary scales.
