Dear ¡jr* Small:
Herewith is an Iris cap3ule of which the following is the explanation.
When we went down to Gloucester Co. tc hunt I+virginisa, the capbules w*?re badlv
worm-eaten. I brought home at that time a large clungi of the plant, and put it into
ay eypress-barrel swamp® It bloomed sparingly this year, and set one pod» I left this
developing as lo*g as it was safe, but the stalk reached the withering pojnt yesterday
so the only thl ng to do was to rescue the pod. I have nc8b counted the seeds in the
cells, but hope it will keep until you come back so you can do this.

The printers have sen "i/proof of all Composites except Solidago wfeich has been
duly corrected and is ready when you are ready for it.
Now they are starting to send the second page proof of the Monocots. I find that
in resetting some of the lines on which corrections had been indicated, they have
made other errors, and w}.ll mark these and turn it in \7hene*e»5rf enough has accumulated.
I have been offered the position formerly held by Ifershberger at the University of
Pennsylvania and expect to go there in September. Will give notice of change of address.
Very sincerely yours,
