Woody vine in small trees of Acer negundo and a few Celtis
occidentalism and formerly Ulmus americana (all have died
over time from Dutch elm disease), which grew up in a
gully on gentle W-facing slope, surrounded by agricultural
fields. StemsCcm in diameter; bark brown, slightly reddish
brown, finely furrowed and stringy. Cut stems with clear
tasteless watery liquid dripping freely at first when held
erect; stems later exuding a clear gelatinous substance, this
hardening and turning dark brown within a day. Flowers
yellow-green, pleasantly flagrant.
Voucher for wood specimen, MADw, from the largest
stems near the base.
