  • Habitat

    Campo cerrado on upland (or occasionally forest). Open marsh or dense secondary forest along streams. This habitat: abandoned cultivated field behind main house of fazenda, with dense growth of grasses & herbs 3-4 dm. tall. Poor soil, reddish-brown fine sand with a little clay.

  • Description

    Herb, several to many stems decumbent at base, then ascending, from taproot ½ - 1 cm. thick. Flowering stems ½ - 1 m. long, ¼ - ½ m. tall. Fls. pale white with ruby red ring at throat. Staminal column & anthers yellowish. Style ruby red. Lvs. tomentose. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
