Acidic forest of mixed hardwoods (Acer saccharum, Carya, Liriodendron, Magnolia fraseri, Oxydendrum, Quercus prinus, Q. rubra) and Tsuga with ericaceous understory (Kalmia, Rhododendron) and sparse sandstone rocks. corticolous on Acer saccharum.
