Growing in alpine tundra in loamy organic soil (Cryods and Cryaquepts, cool, 0-35% slopes), with Anemone parviflora, A. richardsonii, Cassiope stelleriana, Diphasiastrum alpinum, Empetrum nigrum, Huperzia haleakalae, Listera cordata, Luetkea pectinata, Luzula piperi, Ranunculus nivalis, Salix polaris, S. reticulata, Sanguisorba sp., Saxifraga nivalis, Sedum roseum subsp. integrifolium, Valeriana sitchensis, various Carex spp. & grasses (too early for flowering) & Veratrum eschscholtzii.
