The New York Botanical Garden 'pMLOPENDiteM CRNfiTUM SaluT, Stf, GS$utiTlM6, mi PLANTAS DE VENEZUELA Philodendron rubens Schott Climber on tree trunk to 8 m. Largest leaf seen with petiole 93 x 1.5 cm, subterete & flattened adax., surface asperate esp. up- ward; blade 71 x 61.5 cm, sinus 18.5 cm deep, midrib adax. flat abax. high convex-angular but ridge rounded. Inflorescences 3 to- gether. Peduncle 6 cm long, near apex pale green with numerous white, raised dashes and lines esp. behind & with a few red spots on front. Spathe 21 cm long, tube 9.5 x 4.2 cm (x 3 cm in side view), cherry on overlap, otherwise lime green with paler striate dashes; limb dirty white with cherry margins & a few cherry dots toward apex & paler striate-dashed; inside tube deep crimson with 2 cm-long lines in lower part, limb cherry. Spathe 2 cm longer than spadix. Stipe cherry. Pistillate part of spadix 5.3 x 1.5 cm; sterile staminate part 3.2 x 1.7 cm below, x 1.3 cm above, fertile 8.2 x 1.5 cm (midpt.). Tolerating very high winds in ex- posed situation, but leaf blades much split. Edo.
