Viguiera dentata (Cav.) Spreng.
OAXACA: Flats along a dry wash, and adjacent
calcareous rocky slopes in thorn-scrub
vegetation, verging toward tropical deciduous
forest, ca 77 km southeast of Tehuacan and 12
km south-southeast of Teotilan del Camino.
Elev. ca 800 m.
A single rather narrow-leaved specimen
blooming well in advance of the bulk of the
population, which is still in bud. Heads
yellow, with 5-8 sterile rays, these neutral
or with a vestigial style. Shrubs mostly
1-1.5 m tall.
