39 3f PLANTAS DE VENEZUELA Philodendron karstenianum Schott Climbing tree buttresses. Cut tissue very pungent, pleasant. Stem 1.3 cm diam., sulcate longitudinally on side above previous leaf, olive green, intemodes 21-27 cm between largest leaves. Petiole sheath trough-like in lower 1/3, above opening out and apically fused into auricle 3 mm long; glossy adax., firm; non-winged part adax. flat. Blade in same plane as petiole, pergameneous or near- ly subcoriaceous, adax. glossy dark green, abax. silvery-green; margins gently undulate. Not flowering. Edo.
