PLANTAS DE VENEZUELA
Philodendron, possibly a natural hybrid between P. qrandl-
folium (Jacq.) Schott and P. plnnatifidum (Jacq.) Schott
Huge climber on tree trunk 2.3 m above ground. Stem semipendent,
very stout with head of leaves, hidden by close petiole bases and
cataphyll debris. Petiole 2.4 cm diam at midpt., subterete but
flattered adax., near apex prominently so, very hard & stiff,
smooth, tissue succose but odorless. Blade reflexed, firm, thick-
papery, brittle, adax. glossy dark green, undulate, midrib flat
to concave & 1.5 cm wide; abax. pale green. Inflorescences 5 to-
gether. Peduncle strongly marked with crimson becoming dark red
in upper 1/2 or 1/3. Floral cataphyll bright green strongly suf-
fused rose, spongy & soon deteroirating. Spathe (pre-anthesis)
18 cm long, green suffused cherry outside, tube 8.5 cm long & but
slightly inflated; inside tube cherry red deepening to crimson in
lower half, limb cream with white dots.
