Description
gregarious. Pileus 5-11 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, subtomentose, even or very rarely with a rugulose spot, a dark red brown (9F5) with hints of violet (10F4), fading to (7E4) to (6D-E7-6-5), usually with a beveled margin when young. Flesh white, pale pinkish after exposure, up to 15 mm thick, with pungent odor and mild taste. Tubes adnate then depressed, off white at first, then a pale pinkish vinaceous flesh color with age, staining a cinnamon brown, with pores a lilac rose tint at first (7B-C3), becoming a pale pinkish flesh color with age, brusing a cinnamon brown. Stipe 6-13 cm long, 1-2 cm thick, clavate, up to 4 cm broad at base, strict or curved, dry, subpruinose or occasionally with a reticulum on upper 1(2) cm, sometimes reticulum not circumferential, apex (7E7) at first, becoming a dull brownish yellow with age, with the dark red brown to violet brown colors below, yellow brown below and white at base, with interior white, staining pink, developing dull yellow tones in situ.
